| Recently we released a 25 Track Compilation CD entitled FACTION & FANDOM featuring music by some of the artists who have graced the stage at our nights. Needless to say there wasn't room to fit on all the awesome bands who have played, but the tracklisting is still pretty damn special. Also available from Jumbo Records (Leeds) and Rounder Records (Brighton) | |||

Mustard Allegro - The Swindon Oasis EP Mustard Allegro are not from California. Perhaps, then, the office blocks, docks and cranes of their native Bristol explain the angular portwards list of their peculiar brand of Surf music. The sense of humour is certainly British: named after an iconically awful 1970s car, and sporting track titles like 'At the Mount of the Chocolate Fountain, At the Fount of the Chocolate Mountain (Hyperdrive!)', the Mustards inhabit a world in which King Crimson write energetic two-minute micro-epics with Joe Meek at the controls, then dash down to the beach, boards in arms, only to find half a mile of mud between them and the Severn Estuary. For fans of Dick Dale, Link Wray, The Ventures, Man Or Astro-Man? and Bambi Molesters as well as those of The Fall, Marc Ribot, Ivory Springer and Slint. The CD (five tracks in a little over eight minutes) is available from Fact Fans or from the band for just 50p. Alternatively, you can download the MP3s and printable cover from mustardallegro.co.uk and make your own. | 50p Free shipping with any other CD, otherwise add 50p (UK). |

Jeremy Smoking Jacket - Now We Are Dead (And Other Stories)
“Haunting vocals
turn a military march into an aching anti-war anthem; a coughing fit becomes
a drum sample; radio static turns a sweet lullaby into an insomniac’s
nightmare; trumpets echo the wail of traffic; tribal beats roger your
eardrum while a violin is sawn half to death. A sonic gumbo with everything
from post-rock and drum and bass to folk and jazz mashed in: mind-blowingly
inventive.”
The Fly
"pig-fuckingly
brilliant... something like a transistor full of white noise being drowned
in treacle while a splashy stamp electro buzz centre rides shotgun for
a clear, strong, controlled and rather beautiful female lead vocal."

Id Lab - The Monster Path
"On the first listen, I thought, “Hmm, this needs serious editing” but after a couple more attempts, it was clear that something quite wonderful is going on here. Full of inventive samples, fantastic edits, great pacing, and really off the wall production, it might be a little on the dark side but make no mistake this is an imaginative electronic release. In places it does fall into the old trap of “fucking up sound for the sake of it”, but this is a tiny criticism - an essential release for those looking for evocative avant-garde electronica. Beautiful." Decode

Cajita - Product mk.1 "Despite its clinical title Cajita's mini album contains a myriad of emotions over its seven tracks. 'Don't Panic' is the aural equivalent of skimming stones in the sea, rippling sounds and atmospheric vocals. 'First' is a fragile little tune, with some angelic vocals and a mournful blast of trumpet near the end to put the seal on it. On 'Your Own Death And How To Cope With It' a shuffling rhythm track gently ushers along strung out vocals and a shimmering piano, gently asserting itself as the stand out track.. Things pick up for the finale, a lovely plain keyboard led ballad by the name of 'Monster'. Cajita strike you as a band with plenty of ideas. They may not all come off but when they do it's worth the wait." www.russellsreviews.co.uk listen to tracks here |
